Whenever i hear, or read anything from Colby Sandlian I think of the old commercial from E. F. Hutton. When Colby speaks we should all listen! Colby has brought so much knowledge and innovation to the profession but his legacy is his willingness to share with younger professionals that are open to learning.

We are so fortunate to have Bill Broadbent as a regular contributor to the Society. His “Single Agency” ideas have totally permeated the real estate industry and the brokerage community and the public are so much better for his contributions. A gentleman that we all owe great thanks!!

Although I only met Charles Chatham once his counseling concepts were an integral part of my career. I played his tapes until they just disintegrated in my car player. When one attains the credibility so that the client “applies” for your services as an alternative to “chasing” the client is so important in elevating professionalism. Asking any client to commit to a lengthy interview at the beginning is something that everyone should learn and relearn regularly. Broker’s can always improve their counseling skills but using the Chatham philosophy it becomes easier over time.

Bill Broadbent is a gentleman. But besides being someone that most brokers want to sit at a table with, he is one of the most ethical real estate professionals I know. His concept of “Single Agency” was first taken by Wayne Swearingen of Dallas and later by Roger Staubach, former Dallas Cowboys star quarterback and founder of the Staubach Company. It was typical that Bill Broadbent was on the cutting edge of something that put his clients first. Congratulations, Bill! Well deserved honor.
